Hsinchu City is located in northwestern Taiwan. Its northern and northeastern sides border Hsinchu County, it faces the Taiwan Strait to the west, and it neighbours Miaoli County to the south. Hsinchu City is the central city of the Hsinchu metropolitan area, divided into 3 districts. Founded in 1718, it is the earliest city established by Hokkien people in northern Taiwan. Renowned for the Hsinchu Science Park, it is also home to high-education talent clusters such as National Tsing Hua University and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University.
