

Kusatsu
Kusatsu City is located in the southeastern part of Shiga Prefecture, on the eastern shore of Lake Biwa. It is a major transport hub and hot spring resort in the Kinki region. Kusatsu Onsen is one of the three famous hot springs in Japan, known for its high-quality water that is effective for various ailments. The hot spring town retains a classic atmosphere, with steam rising from the Yumoto and Netsu no Yu springs. The lakeside area of Lake Biwa offers beautiful scenery, and the Lake Biwa Museum showcases the lake’s ecosystem. The old canal town of Omihachiman is picturesque. Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine is an important Shinto shrine in Japan. The local cuisine is famous for Omi beef, which is as renowned as Kobe and Matsusaka beef. Dishes such as shabu-shabu and grilled beef melt in the mouth. Other delicacies include Lake Biwa sushi, funa-zushi (crucian carp sushi), Omi tea, and Kusatsu manju sweets, all of which are delicious and flavourful.
