City introduction

Atami City

Atami is the gateway to the Izu Peninsula and a famous hot spring resort city in Japan, facing Sagami Bay. From the castle keep of Atami Castle, you can overlook the city and the sea. The hot spring water in Atami is of excellent quality, and Japanese-style inns line the hot spring streets. The trees at Konomiya Shrine are ancient and towering, exuding a strong spiritual atmosphere. In early spring, plum blossoms are in full bloom at Atami Plum Garden. The coastline along Nishikigaura is rugged, featuring unique sea-eroded cliff landscapes. The cuisine centres on fresh seafood from Atami, including raw fish sashimi, sea bream dishes, Ise lobster, and sweet hot spring crab; hot spring steamed buns, citrus desserts, and Atami pudding are also sweet and delicious.
