Chitose, Hokkaido
Chitose City is located in southwestern Hokkaido and is the home of New Chitose Airport, serving as Hokkaido's aerial gateway. The crystal-clear waters of Lake Shikotsu (the northernmost unfrozen lake in Japan) along with the volcanic reflection of Mount Tarumae create a picturesque scene, while the winter Ice Festival offers a fantastical landscape. The banks of the Chitose River are lush with greenery. Hokkaido Heritage Tsurui Village is renowned for its red-crowned cranes (in winter). Dining centres on Hokkaido seafood, with salmon dishes, scallops, sweet shrimp, and hairy crab offering a fresh sweetness; Chitose ramen, Genghis Khan grilled mutton, melon desserts, and dairy products (milk, ice cream) are rich and delicious.
