

Miyagi Prefecture
Miyagi Prefecture is located on the Pacific side of the Tohoku region, with its capital Sendai, renowned for the 'City of Trees' Sendai and its stunning coastline. Sendai Castle (Aoba Castle) offers a panoramic view of Sendai city. Matsushima is one of Japan's three most scenic spots, with 260 islands scattered across the bay, and the 'Four Great Views of Matsushima' are magnificent. Zuiganji Temple is a gem of Momoyama architecture. Zao Mountain attracts visitors with its skiing and spectacular frost-covered trees. The cuisine is famous for Sendai beef tongue (thick-cut charcoal-grilled, crispy outside and tender inside), with Matsushima oysters, kamaboko (fish cake), edamame mochi, Yonezawa beef, seafood rice bowl, and Date-maki (sweet rolled omelette) as representative flavours.
