(2) It is particularly cold in the morning and evening. Please wear warm down jackets, thick socks, and bring a scarf/neck warmer, hat, and gloves to keep warm;
(3) The roads are icy and slippery, so it is highly recommended to wear snow boots and waterproof, slip‑resistant shoes;
(4) Please bring a portable power bank, as phone battery life tends to shorten when the temperature drops below 0°C, causing the battery to drain faster;

(6) Free foot baths called "WARAKU" are available along Ginzan Onsen Street, where you can soak your feet in the natural hot spring while enjoying the street view. Remember to bring a towel so your feet won't be wet after soaking;
(7) UV rays in Zao are quite strong during the day, so it is recommended to bring sunglasses;
(8) The itinerary may be adjusted due to traffic or weather conditions. In the event of a Zao Ropeway suspension, the Central Ropeway will be used as an alternative;

Winter in Japan's Tohoku region is a hidden snow country fairytale! No self‑driving required, no complicated planning needed — set off effortlessly from Sendai and enjoy two premier winter routes in a single day, capturing adorable healing snowscapes and majestic natural wonders all at once. Easily unlock Tohoku's winter‑exclusive romance, perfect for couples, families, and solo travellers.

The first stop of the journey takes you to Zao Fox Village, where over a hundred foxes roam freely through the snow‑covered woodlands. Their fluffy appearance is full of healing charm, and every casual shot looks like a Japanese‑style winter masterpiece. Friendly reminder: foxes are wild animals, please maintain a safe distance and do not chase or touch them. The park is closed every Wednesday, and no tours depart on that day.

If you love the vintage and gentle style, choose the Ginzan Onsen route. With over 500 years of history, the Ginzan Onsen street is home to 12 century‑old wooden ryokan (traditional inns) dating from the Taisho to early Showa periods, nestled along the Ginzan River. In winter, snow blankets the historic street, and as dusk falls, the warm amber glow of gas lamps gradually lights up, blending vintage charm with snowy scenery for an incredibly atmospheric experience. You can also enjoy a free foot bath sourced from the hot spring — soak your feet in the warm water amidst the snow for the ultimate winter comfort.

For lovers of natural wonders, the Zao Snow Monsters route is a must. The winter winds and snow accumulation sculpt the spectacular snow monster phenomenon, transforming the entire forest into a dreamy silvery‑white wonderland. Take the ropeway directly to the summit, overlook the endless snow‑capped ridges, and immerse yourself in the vast awe of the snow country. In the event of severe weather causing the ropeway to suspend operations, you can switch to the Central Ropeway free of charge, ensuring your touring experience is fully protected.

Remarks & Dressing Tips
※ If the ropeway suspends operations due to weather, you may switch to the Central Ropeway; please kindly note. The Fox Village is closed every Wednesday with no tours departing; return time may be flexibly adjusted based on road conditions on the day.
※ The best snow season at Ginzan Onsen is from mid‑December to March (with the best snow quality from mid‑January to mid‑February), with temperatures ranging from 0°C to ‑5°C. Mornings and evenings are extremely cold, and roads may be slippery. It is recommended to wear waterproof and slip‑resistant snow boots, a thick down jacket, and bring a scarf, gloves, and hat, along with hand warmers. UV rays are relatively strong in the mountainous area, so sunglasses are recommended. Low temperatures drain battery power quickly, so be sure to bring a power bank. It is also recommended to bring your own towel for the foot bath.
