Hangzhou, abbreviated as Hang, is a prefecture-level city, provincial capital, and sub-provincial city of Zhejiang Province. It serves as the political, economic, cultural, scientific, educational, and financial centre, as well as a transportation hub of Zhejiang. It is a national megacity. Historically, Hangzhou was known as 'Yuhang', 'Lin'an', 'Qiantang', 'Wulin', etc. The current name 'Hangzhou' first appeared in the Sui Dynasty, taking the character 'Hang' from Yuhang County and renaming Qiantang Commandery, where the county was located, as Hangzhou. This name has been used through various changes up to the present day. Hangzhou is not only one of the first batch of China's Best Tourist Cities, a National Historic and Cultural City, and one of the Eight Great Ancient Capitals, but also a famous tea capital, and a centre for silk and women's fashion in China. Its beautiful landscapes of lakes and mountains have attracted countless visitors since ancient times, leaving behind many traces of literati and emperors. Most scenic spots along the West Lake in the urban area of Hangzhou adopt a free admission policy, setting an example for tourism cities in China and attracting a large number of tourists from all over the world. It is known as the 'Leisure Capital of China'.
