City introduction

Suzhou, Jiangsu

Suzhou was historically known as Gusu, a paradise on earth and a city of gardens. Core attractions include the Humble Administrator's Garden (the foremost of China's four famous gardens, a quintessence of Jiangnan gardens), the Lion Grove Garden (a labyrinth of rockeries), Zhouzhuang Ancient Town (China's number one water town), and Hanshan Temple (renowned for Zhang Ji's poem 'Mooring by Maple Bridge at Night'). Famous dishes include squirrel-shaped mandarin fish (beautiful in presentation with tender meat), Dongting biluochun shrimp (fragrant and fresh), Yangcheng Lake hairy crab (plump and tasty), Suzhou soup dumplings (thin-skinned and full of broth), and osmanthus-glazed lotus root (sweet and refreshing), showcasing the refinement of Suzhou cuisine and the flavours of Jiangnan.
