Dongguan, abbreviated as Guan, is a prefecture-level city under Guangdong Province, located in the central-southern part of Guangdong. It is one of the cities covered by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In 2020, its permanent resident population exceeded 10 million, ranking it among the country's megacities. Dongguan is one of the 'Four Little Tigers of Guangdong' and is an important commercial, high-tech industrial, service, tourism, and industrialised city in the Pearl River Delta. It is also a key player in international manufacturing, earning the nickname 'World Factory'. Dongguan has long been known as the 'Back Garden' of the Pearl River Delta, with a wide range of leisure industries such as foot massage and sauna being highly developed. Dongguan has a long history, with attractions including the Opium Destruction Pond and Humen Fort Site of Lin Zexu, Dongguan Keyuan Garden, Quejin Pavilion Stele, ancient building complexes in Nanshe Village and Tangwei Village, the former site of the Dalingshan Anti-Japanese Base, Haogang Shell Mound Site, and the Shilong South Bridge of the Guangzhou-Kowloon Railway.
