Special Exhibition and Artistic Collaborations
Among the major highlights is the special curated exhibition titled 《UNPAST: Territories of Memory》, organised by the Modern Art Photography Association, led by President Lee Pill, alongside co-planners Professor Lee Pill and Chang Nayun from Hong Ik University. The prefix 'un-' in 'UNPAST' signifies how events considered finished continue to exert influence in the present. Eleven prominent figures in Korean contemporary photography and visual arts participate to examine how past events such as war, colonialism, state violence, and national division resonate within today's lives and imagery. Participating artists include Sung Nong-kyung, Lee Jae-gap, Oh Soon-hwa, Byun Soon-chul, Yoon Jeong-mee, Lim An-na, Lee Won-chul, Jung Hyun-mok, Ahn Jun, Joo Yong-sung, and Park Tae-sung.
Furthermore, the exhibition honors the late photographer Kim Yong-soo (1938–2022) as an Incheon legend. Having spent over half a century documenting local life starting from his first solo exhibition in 1969, Kim captured everyday people in marketplaces, rural areas, salt pans, and along railway lines rather than famous figures. His notable series include Nun's Diary, Suin-line Narrow Gauge, and Incheon Scenery.
Official Theme and International Participation
The overarching theme for this year's event is 《Lucid Dream: The City's Right to Dream》. The official poster adopts violet as its primary colour, representing the boundary between reality and unreality, consciousness and unconsciousness. A large Chinese character meaning dream floats visually on the screen, evoking hidden memories, desires, and urban possibilities.
International exchange remains a cornerstone of the event. Famous International (Beijing International Culture Science and Technology Development Co., Ltd.), led by Chairman You Yuan, recommended three representative Chinese artists: Fu Qiang, Ouyang Xiangshan, and Yue Luping, through its Korean branch, Famous Korea Co., Ltd. Additionally, Turkey's Istanbul Photography and Cinema Amateur Association (IFSAK) announced the participation of twenty-six Turkish artists in the exhibition via its official Instagram account, following an invitation extended by the Korea Visual Arts Culture Research Institute.
Institutional Partnerships and Community Engagement
The organisers have established various partnerships to connect regional history, university creativity, and visual arts. On August 7, 2026, the Korea Visual Arts Culture Research Institute signed business agreements (MOU) with Inha University advertising club ADGON (represented by Yang Seung-hyun) and the Incheon History and Culture Group (represented by Jung Eun-joo) to collaborate on advertising, design, and regional historical resources.
Another three-way agreement was signed involving Case 24 Croquet House CEO Huh Seung-liang, Incheon Cultural Arts Association President Park Soo-yi, and Korea Visual Arts Culture Research Institute Director Kim No-cheon. These bodies plan to cooperate on photography and art exhibitions, performances, cultural arts education, and support for local artists. Notably, they will collaborate on the Incheon Coffee Festival running from November 6 to 7, 2026, where the photography exhibition organising committee will oversee photography excursion programmes, alongside traditional Korean Hanbo-k experiences and model photography sessions.
