Navigating public transport in Singapore is remarkably straightforward. The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system is considered one of the most user-friendly metro networks globally, featuring English signage and announcements, frequent services arriving every two to five minutes during peak hours, and distance-based fares capped at around SGD 3 per journey. The network covers nearly all major tourist attractions across the island.

How the Singapore MRT Works

Opened in 1987, the MRT network has expanded to include six lines spanning 141 stations and approximately 230 km of track, carrying over 3 million passenger journeys daily. Trains are fully air-conditioned, and stations feature full-height platform screen doors for enhanced safety and climate control.
