Incheon Hosts Museum Festival 2026

Incheon Metropolitan City has announced the hosting of the 17th Incheon Citizen Museum and Art Gallery Festival on 13 June 2026. Taking place at the outdoor plaza and park grounds of the Bupyeong History Museum, this annual cultural extravaganza brings together 11 leading public and private museums and art galleries from across the city to present an array of interactive cultural experiences.

Organised jointly by Incheon Metropolitan City and the Incheon Association of Museums, with support from the Bupyeong History Museum, the festival serves as a premier collaborative effort between the public and private sectors. Over the years, it has established itself as a cornerstone event for showcasing the region's rich history, heritage, and artistic creative output.

Hands-On Interactive Cultural Workshops
Unlike traditional museum exhibitions that focus purely on passive viewing, this year's festival shifts towards fully participatory experiences. The organizers have redesigned the structure to allow visitors to directly touch, craft, and engage with history and art. Each participating institution has crafted tailored activity kits designed to highlight its unique heritage focus, making it an excellent opportunity for parents travelling with children.
Key educational and crafting programmes hosted by the participating institutions include:
* Gachen Museum: A traditional medicinal herb planting activity where participants learn about ancient wellness practices while planting herbs to wish for good health.
* Oktokki Space Center: An interactive pop-up book workshop titled "How to Get to the Moon", introducing fundamental space exploration concepts to young minds.
* Gyeyangsanseong Museum: A creative craft session where visitors build mood lights depicting the historic Gyeyangsanseong Fortress using light-based artistic designs.
* Beompae Folk Cultural Museum: A metalcraft workshop where attendees assemble customized wind bells and doorbells that carry traditional acoustic motifs.
In addition to these core activities, institutions such as Haeden Museum, the Funny Museum, and Sorae History Museum are setting up dedicated booths. In total, 11 distinct cultural experience stations will be operating simultaneously throughout the venue.

Event Schedule and Admission Information
The festival kicks off at 10:00 AM on 13 June 2026 with an opening cultural performance, with workshop activities running continuously until 5:00 PM. Admission to the festival grounds and participation in the cultural experience booths are completely free of charge for both local residents and international visitors.
According to Jeong Kyeong-won, Head of the Cultural Infrastructure Division at Incheon Metropolitan City, the festival is carefully designed to allow citizens and travellers to easily access and enjoy the city's diverse cultural assets within their daily lives. The local government plans to continue expanding public cultural infrastructure and creating accessible opportunities for artistic appreciation.
