Seoul Autumn Festa 2026: 73 Days of Cultural Arts
If you are planning a trip to South Korea this autumn, prepare to experience the capital at its most creative. The Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture (SFAC), led by CEO Song Hyeong-jong, has announced the return of the Seoul Autumn Festa 2026. Running from 18 September to 29 November 2026, this mammoth 73-day celebration unites 38 distinct festivals and 478 performances into a single mega-brand under the banner, *"Seoul's Autumn, the City Becomes Art."*
Across the 73-day span, travellers can look forward to 558 scheduled programmes featuring 2,014 individual sessions scattered across the metropolis. Mark your calendar and explore what makes this year's edition an absolute must-visit for Hong Kong culture enthusiasts.

Bigger, Boulder and More International
Now in its second year, the Seoul Autumn Festa has grown exponentially compared to its inaugural run. The festival duration has expanded from 40 to 73 days, while the number of featured works has more than doubled from 116 to 245. International involvement has also surged, with participating partner countries jumping from 10 to 28.
Organised by a dedicated team of 217 industry professionals—co-headed by traditional Korean musician and actress Oh Jeong-hae—the event creates a seamless network bridging private performing arts groups and public cultural bodies. Major institutions such as the Seoul Metropolitan Government, SFAC, and Sejong Center for the Performing Arts are collaborating alongside 22 autonomous districts and independent theatre groups. Rather than confining acts to traditional indoor auditoriums, performances will spill onto streets, public squares, and urban parks.
According to the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, the overarching festival identity does not attempt to force diverse arts into a single template. Instead, it serves as an overarching umbrella designed to amplify each showcase's distinct identity and connect artists with a broader international audience.
Beyond city limits, SFAC has forged agreements with six regional cultural foundations across South Korea. This initiative brings celebrated regional productions directly to Seoul audiences—such as the play *I Like My Teacher* from the Chungbuk Cultural Foundation—while exporting home-grown Seoul hits to regional hubs like Busan.
Opening Night at Hangang and Festival Highlights

Riverfront Opening Ceremony
The grand opening performance, titled *"Seoul, Dance on the Hangang"*, takes place on 18 September at 7:30 PM at Ttukseom Hangang Park. Transforming the riverside into a grand open-air theatre, artistic director Lee Ru-da (choreographer for Black Toe Dance Company) leads a stellar lineup featuring the Seoul Metropolitan Dance Troupe, Oh Jeong-hae, dancer Choi Ho-jong, Melancholy Dance Company, and Black Toe Dance Company. The narrative blends traditional Korean movement with contemporary choreography to welcome over 10,000 spectators.

Grand Finale
The festival concludes on a global note on 17 November at DDP Art Hall 2 with the Seoul Arts Forum Today (SAFT). Prominent international cultural leaders—including Glyn Roberts, CEO of Festival City Adelaide, and Guggenheim Award-winning artist Trevor Paglen—will gather to discuss the future of the arts.
Looking ahead, organisers plan to extend the festival footprint in its third year to a 100-day run (from 1 September to 7 December), opening at the Sejong Center and Arko Arts Theatre with a focus on dramatic theatre.
