Find Your Travel Match with the Seoul Shopping Quiz
To help visitors navigate the endless choices across key districts—including Gwanghwamun, Myeongdong, Dongdaemun, Hongdae, Yeouido, Itaewon, Gangnam, and Jamsil—Visit Seoul features an online recommendations test. Sponsored in part by Roborock, the interactive quiz analyses your preferences to match you with tailored shopping spots, scenic walks, and local hidden gems across the capital.
By organising your favourite destinations by area, you can easily plan focused day trips. For instance, pair high-street retail in Myeongdong with nearby historic sights, or contrast the energetic arts scene of Hongdae with relaxed riverside views at Yeouido.
Guided Walking Tours Across Seoul
Beyond shopping, visitors can explore the city on foot through official guided walking tours accompanied by knowledgeable local culture guides. These walking itineraries offer deep insights into Seoul's history, architecture, and contemporary local lifestyle.
General Walking Tours
Standard walking tour programmes allow individual travellers and small groups to explore iconic landmarks, historic palaces such as Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung, and Deoksugung, and historic neighbourhood alleys.
* Group Size & Booking Limits: General individual bookings accept up to 10 participants (or up to 20 participants for palace tours including Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, and Changgyeonggung). Large group bookings exceeding 35 people for palace visits require group entry registration on the respective official palace websites at least 15 days in advance.
* Reservation Window: Standard individual reservations must be made at least 3 days prior to the tour date. Reservations for the following month open on the 15th of the current month. Additional reservations one to two days before the tour (by 17:00 one day prior) are permitted only if existing groups have remaining capacity. Group tours can be requested up to 5 months in advance and at least 5 days prior to the visit.
* Age Requirements: Children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult guardian; unaccompanied minors will have their bookings cancelled on site.
* Contact & Confirmation: For group bookings, the walking tour administration office contacts applicants to confirm details (between 5 days to one month prior). Reservations may be cancelled if reachable contacts cannot be established after 3 phone attempts.
Accessible Walking Tours
Seoul also provides dedicated accessible walking itineraries designed specifically for senior citizens, visitors with disabilities, stroller users, and travelers requiring mobility assistance.
* Booking Notice: Accessible tour bookings require submission at least 1 week prior (or up to 1 day prior depending on specific assistant arrangements).
* Companion Policy: Visitors with mobility limitations must be accompanied by at least one assistant or companion. For users of electric wheelchairs or electric scooters, one assistant may accompany up to 4 mobility-impaired visitors.
* Special Facilities: Special concession benefits apply at select sites like Deoksugung for eligible welfare cardholders. In addition, specialised sign language guided tours are available for hearing-impaired visitors (participants must be proficient in sign language as non-signers cannot be accommodated).
Practical Tips
* Weather Considerations & Suspensions: Guided walking tours may be temporarily suspended during extreme weather periods (such as severe heatwaves between 23 July and 11 August). All outdoor walking tours are automatically cancelled immediately upon the issuance of weather warnings (including heatwaves, typhoons, heavy rain, or severe fine dust/PM2.5). Always verify the local forecast on the day of your tour via official weather channels such as AccuWeather.
* Health Precautions: Participants experiencing fever or respiratory symptoms (coughing, sore throat, muscle pain, nasal congestion) are strongly advised to refrain from attending guided group activities.
* Guide Availability & Safety: Tours are subject to guide availability on requested dates and routes. Please note that the Seoul Guided Walking Tour administration office and its official guides do not accept liability for personal safety accidents occurring during tour activities.
