Families travelling to South Korea during the summer holiday season have a wonderful opportunity to immerse themselves in authentic Korean culture. The Incheon City Museum is launching a special interactive event titled *Summer, Let's Play at the Museum!* aimed specifically at family visitors with children. Designed to offer both educational value and festive entertainment, this seasonal initiative allows visitors of all ages to engage directly with traditional Korean customs and traditional games in a lively outdoor setting.

Organised by Museum Director Kim Tae-ik and his dedicated cultural team, the program aims to help children and families gain a friendly, hands-on understanding of local traditions. Whether you are living in South Korea or visiting on a summer getaway, this event serves as an enriching cultural excursion that combines creative craft workshops with engaging intergenerational activities.

Traditional Cultural Crafts and Hands-on Workshops

The event takes place at the museum's outdoor Woohyeon Yard, turning the open space into a vibrant cultural workshop field. Visitors can participate in a wide array of hands-on activities that highlight historical Korean crafts and seasonal customs.

One of the highlighted traditions is *bongsung-a muldeuri-gi*, the classic practice of dyeing fingernails using natural balsam flowers. Children and adults alike can also craft their own traditional items to take home as souvenirs. The craft sessions include assembling mother-of-pearl spinning tops (*jegae paengi*), making traditional shuttlecocks (*son-jaegi*), and painting customized Korean folk art folding fans (*minhwa buchae*). These workshops offer participants direct experience with traditional artistry while crafting personalized keepsakes.

Intergenerational Games and Family Entertainment

Beyond traditional craft-making, the program places a strong emphasis on intergenerational connection through interactive games. The museum ground features specialized play areas designed to foster communication and fun across different generations.

Families can try their hand at classic Korean jackstones (*gonggi놀이*), test their coordination on stick balance boards, or compete in table curling board games. These low-tech, engaging games encourage parents, grandparents, and children to play together, creating lasting summer memories through friendly competition and collective play.

Special Rewards and Capsule Toy Event for Children

To make the museum visit even more exciting for young visitors, the venue incorporates an interactive stamp collection system. Children attending the event receive a activity card to track their progress across the various workshop stations.

Upon completing at least 2 out of the 6 available hands-on experience programs, young participants collect stamps on their cards. Gathering 2 stamps unlocks access to a special capsule toy vending machine (*capsule ppobgi*). Free gifts and souvenirs are awarded via the capsule machine on a first-come, first-served basis, adding an element of joyful anticipation to the cultural learning process.
