Called A Study in Red: The Official Sherlock Experience, this immersive game from local studio Hidden is the first officially licensed Sherlock Holmes experience anywhere in the world — and it's designed to be played out in real life. After debuting here, the game heads to London.

How does it work? Teams of up to five players take on the role of detectives, tracing 16 waypoints across Bugis Town to reconstruct the crime. Using your own phone, you'll scan evidence, explore augmented-reality crime scenes, step into 360-degree virtual environments, receive calls from characters drawn from the Sherlock Holmes canon, and sift through CCTV intel.

The case draws on A Study in Scarlet, the 1887 story that first introduced Sherlock Holmes, but swaps Victorian London for Bugis and weaves in real neighbourhood history. Hidden spent months poring over archives and little-known Bugis stories, so while the murder itself is fictional, much of its world is grounded in the actual district.

Die-hard fans should watch for Easter eggs along the route — like the address "221B Constants", a nod to Holmes' famous 221B Baker Street home, and Inspector Lester Ang, a Singaporean riff on Inspector Lestrade.

Some crime scenes are physical sets you can examine in person. One at Bugis Street features a staged body, red lantern and bloodied wall, with clues revealed under UV light and inspected through the game's AR camera. Over at Bugis+, a second scene unfolds as an immersive 360-degree VR environment on your phone.

A Study in Red begins and ends at 261 Victoria Street, #02-141, Bugis Street, and takes about 90 minutes. The route is fully sheltered and largely air-conditioned, so there's no sweltering in the heat.

Tickets are $29 per adult on weekdays and non-public holidays, $39 on weekends and public holidays, and $19 for students. Players must be 13 or older, and teams can have one to five members.

There's also a shopping incentive: from August 21 to October 4, the first 500 shoppers who spend at least $150 at Bugis Junction or Bugis+ and register for the promotion will receive a pair of tickets.

A Study in Red: The Official Sherlock Experience opens August 21, 2026, as part of Singapore Night Festival 2026 and a partner event of Bugis Night Lights 2026. Book your tickets on the official site.
