Royal palaces are the most popular attraction in Seoul during autumn for both Koreans and international visitors, according to a new study. On Oct. 22, the Seoul Metropolitan Government released an analysis of the capital's top attractions for October of last year, compiled with mobile carrier LG U+ using social media mentions, mobile-usage and spending data.
Royal palaces topped the list. As of October 2024, Gyeongbokgung Palace led with 30,222 mentions, while Changgyeonggung and Changdeokgung tied for fifth and Deoksugung placed seventh.
Seoul Forest came in second with 23,873 mentions and Cheonggyecheon Stream fourth with 15,674.
Boosted by the animated blockbuster "KPop Demon Hunters," Namsan Mountain (12,214) rose in social-media popularity, with related keywords such as "K-pop" and "K-content" surfacing alongside N Seoul Tower.
The Hyundai Seoul department store ranked third (16,419), followed by Yeouido Hangang Park eighth (10,993), Nodeulseom Island ninth (8,636) and the Myeong-dong shopping district 10th (8,299).
The city's Seoul Real Time City Data service (https://data.seoul.go.kr/SeoulRtd, Korean only) lets users check real-time traffic and parking conditions at attractions, analyzing population, transportation and environment data across 120 areas on a four-level congestion scale. The service surpassed 200 million cumulative views this September.
