Want to stay active? Step outdoors for a walk that connects you with nature while working your muscles and boosting your metabolism. The Taipei City Geotechnical Engineering Office recommends the following three routes, ranging from a gentle, beginner-friendly stroll to a more demanding hike that works up a sweat — so you can pick the one that suits your energy and schedule.

1. The Easiest, Sweat-Free Pick: Section 5 (Jiantan MRT Station – Bishanyan)

Widely regarded by hikers as the most accessible route, this section starts right from the MRT station with gentle gradients and few steps. Along the way you can stop at the "Laodifang Plane-Watching Platform" to watch aircraft take off and land, snapping photos as you go — an easy way to get some exercise, strengthen your legs and enjoy the mountain scenery all at once.

2. Leisurely Walk Type: Part of Section 1 (Guandu – Erziping)

This stretch combines riverside scenery with the lush greenery of Yangmingshan, offering low-intensity, longer-duration calorie burning in a natural setting. The route can be as long or short as you like, making it a great family outing — a classic "chat while you exercise" trail.

3. For a Real Workout: Section 3 (Xiaoyoukeng – Fengguikou)

If you want to step up the intensity, the undulating stone steps and uphill sections effectively raise your heart rate while rewarding you with Yangmingshan's volcanic terrain and misty scenery. Just remember to pace yourself and turn back if needed.
