KAWS Makes Korean Museum Debut with 'Friends and Neighbors' at Space K Seoul

Space K Seoul in the Magok district is hosting Brooklyn-based artist KAWS (Brian Donnelly, b. 1974) in his first-ever Korean museum solo exhibition, titled 'KAWS: Friends and Neighbors.' Running from July 23 through December 27, 2026, the show spans three seasons and marks a milestone for contemporary art in the capital.

Emerging from the graffiti and advertising intervention scenes of New Jersey and New York in the early-to-mid 1990s, KAWS has built a singular visual language by navigating the boundaries between fine art and popular culture, the street and the museum, image and commodity. His body of work — ranging from painting and sculpture to graphic design, product design, and public projects — demonstrates how art can permeate everyday life in today's image-saturated culture. This exhibition presents 20 new works including large-scale paintings and sculptures featuring the artist's signature characters.

'Friends and Neighbors' looks beyond KAWS's instantly recognizable characters and polished imagery to examine the complexity of human relationships. Caught between friends and neighbors, intimacy and discomfort, connection and disconnection, KAWS's figures prompt viewers to reconsider what it truly means to live together.
