Sofia Coppola Brings Marie Antoinette Back to Versailles: A 20th Anniversary Exhibition Opens September 2026
This autumn, director Sofia Coppola and the Château de Versailles throw open the doors of the Petit Trianon for an immersive journey behind the scenes of the most iconic film of a generation — Marie Antoinette.

She's back. The Marie Antoinette of meringue-like gowns and lilac Converse, daydreaming to The Strokes and Aphex Twin, living on champagne and sugary confections — Sofia Coppola's unforgettable queen returns to Versailles. From September 22, 2026 through January 24, 2027, the Petit Trianon — the queen's private refuge where she lived for several years — hosts an exhibition twenty years in the making. The château and Coppola herself reunite to revisit the film's production in a multi-faceted exhibition that promises to make waves.
Costumes, props, storyboards, set photography, never-before-seen archival materials... To deepen the immersion, certain spaces will be reconstructed to match the film, with scenes projected in the very rooms where they were shot. Visitors will have the rare chance to get up close to the original costumes designed by Milena Canonero — who won an Oscar for her work on the film — as well as the bespoke shoes handcrafted by Manolo Blahnik. Those wishing to extend the fantasy (at a premium) can already book a night at the château's own cinematic five-star hotel, the Grand Contrôle. Everyone else can make do with brioche.
📍 Where: Petit Trianon, Château de Versailles
