Gold Coast's First Made-to-Order Japanese All-You-Can-Eat: Tori Brings Tokyo Vibes to Broadbeach

There are two kinds of diners: those who pace themselves at an all-you-can-eat, and those who attack round one like it's their final meal. If you're in the second camp, your next obsession has arrived on the Gold Coast.

Say hello to Tori, the city's first dedicated made-to-order Japanese all-you-can-eat restaurant, where every dish is prepared fresh from the kitchen — no buffet trays, no heat lamps, and certainly no sorry-looking plates that have been sitting out for hours. For A$48.80 per adult (kids from A$23.70, under-fours eat free), you get 90 minutes to feast on more than 50 Japanese dishes, with soft drinks and desserts thrown in for good measure.

Behind the venture is Head Chef Satoshi Chō, who began his culinary apprenticeship at just 15 in his family's Kakogawa restaurant, where his father was a respected yakitori master. By 21, he was venturing through Osaka and Kobe, honing his craft across sushi, kaiseki, izakaya cooking and yakitori over the next decade. When he returned home in 2011, he felt something was missing — so he set out to create a space where diners could experience everything he had learned under one roof. That vision became Tori, bringing decades of Japanese culinary tradition to Broadbeach.

Inside, the vibe lands somewhere between Tokyo after dark and the Gold Coast's signature laid-back energy. Contemporary Japanese-inspired interiors set a warm, welcoming tone, while generous seating nudges everyone towards sharing — which is exactly the point.

Work your way through smoky yakitori skewers, prawn and pork gyoza, Aburi Salmon and Tuna Nigiri, sushi rolls, and crisp vegetable tempura. Then tackle the ramen: a house-made Tonkotsu broth crowned with chashu and finished with black garlic oil — essentially a hug in a bowl. Save room for wagashi (Japanese sweets): Daifuku, fish-shaped Taiyaki cakes, plus Green Tea and Vanilla ice-cream.

There's no rushing to and from a buffet line here. You stay seated, order another round, and let the kitchen do the heavy lifting. It's less feeding frenzy, more chilled-out feast — exactly the kind of place where everyone around the table discovers their next favourite dish together.
