Snap Up Bargain Flights From Sydney in Virgin Australia's Massive Mid-Year Sale

Sydney travellers can score seriously cheap flights right now, with Virgin Australia dropping fares as low as AU$49 for domestic trips and AU$469 return for international getaways.

The airline has just unleashed one of its biggest sales of 2026, putting over a million discounted seats up for grabs across 34 routes spanning domestic and international destinations. The sale window is tight — it closes at 11:59pm AEST on Monday 27 July (or whenever seats run out), so you'll want to move fast. Travel dates stretch all the way from 25 August 2026 through to 22 June 2027, giving you plenty of flexibility to plan ahead.

For New South Wales locals, the headline grabber is Sydney to Ballina (your gateway to Byron Bay) at just AU$49 one-way. Other domestic standouts include Sydney to the Gold Coast from AU$65, the Sunshine Coast from AU$69, and tropical Cairns from AU$115. If island escapes are more your thing, Hamilton Island flights start at AU$139, with Adelaide coming in at AU$155.

Those with passports at the ready will find equally tempting international fares. A return trip from Sydney to Bali (Denpasar) starts at AU$469 on Economy Lite, while Queenstown in New Zealand goes for AU$535 return and the beaches of Fiji (Nadi) are available from AU$599 return.

Travellers who prefer a package deal can turn to Virgin Australia Holidays (powered by Hopper), which bundles flights and accommodation. A return Sydney–Cairns trip with two nights' accommodation starts at AU$430 per person (twin share). Velocity Frequent Flyer members can also earn double Status Credits on qualifying holiday packages booked before the 27 July cut-off.

Fancy treating yourself? Economy X seats with extra legroom can be added from just AU$12 per sector. Or go all-in with Business Class on the Sydney–Ballina Byron route from AU$219 one-way, complete with lounge access, priority boarding and inflight dining.

Browse the full sale at the Virgin Australia website — but don't dawdle. With over a million fares on offer, seats will go quickly.
