Located in the Ginza Mitsukoshi department store in central Tokyo, the Ginza Art Aquarium draws inspiration from traditional Japanese cultural elements and ingeniously combines high‑tech audiovisual effects with installation art design, creating highly imaginative artistic fish tanks for the underwater dancers — goldfish. It overturns people's conventional perception of aquariums, presenting a stunning feast of art that dazzles the senses.

The traditional culture of appreciating goldfish in Japan dates back to the Edo period from 1603 to 1867, and has a history of several hundred years. Bright, cute, elegant and agile, goldfish are the most beloved pets in the ornamental fish world. Through selective breeding, goldfish have developed into various breeds with different colours, fin shapes, eyes and body forms, and even the same breed can come in different colour patterns — a veritable "living art" for goldfish enthusiasts. In addition to appreciating goldfish, scooping goldfish, an essential activity at festivals, also holds a certain status in traditional Japanese culture.
The Ginza Art Aquarium displays as many as 70 species of goldfish, of which 30 are nationally certified breeds. Thousands of goldfish swim and dance gracefully in a variety of exquisitely designed artistic tanks, presenting one‑of‑a‑kind performance art. When classic culture meets modern art, what is hailed as the "living art museum" comes into being! Combining high‑tech audiovisual effects with modern exhibition spaces that symbolise traditional Japanese culture such as origami, folding screens and kimonos, the exhibition elevates the culture of appreciating goldfish to a殿堂級 art exhibition, satisfying the wishes of art lovers and goldfish fans alike in one go. Don't miss this super popular goldfish art exhibition, which has been held 40 times both domestically and internationally, with a cumulative audience exceeding 10.8 million!
Ginza is a tourist attraction that blends tradition and modernity. Besides being Tokyo's trendiest shopping paradise, it is also home to long‑established restaurants and retro cafés, where traditional culture coexists with classic fashion. Ginza Mitsukoshi department store, where the Ginza Art Aquarium is located, is close to Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace, so visitors can easily arrange sightseeing tours of nearby attractions after the exhibition.
