Product Details

Gondola (Italian: Gondola ), also known as "Gondola", is translated as "Phoenix Tail Boat" in Chinese. Originating from Venice, Italy, the gondola is a unique and most representative traditional rowing boat of the region, with the hull painted entirely black, propelled by a gondolier standing at the stern. The concept of the gondola at The Venetian Macao's Grand Canal Shopping Mall also draws inspiration from the gondolas that constantly shuttle through Venice, Italy.

930-1.jpgThe "Grand Canal", "St. Luke's Canal", and "Marco Polo Canal" inside The Venetian Macao's Grand Canal Shopping Mall are famous canals at the Venetian Macao resort. The three canals are not connected to each other, each featuring about 10 gondolas that shuttle along their respective waterways. The gondoliers are mostly expatriates who, according to guests' preferences, row the boat and sing at the same time.

The gondoliers, regardless of their build, are all excellent singers. The Grand Canal Shopping Plaza boasts excellent acoustics; when a gondolier starts singing melodiously, the sound travels across the arched bridges to the far end of the canal, instantly filling the entire plaza. The canal water is as clean as swimming pool water, free of any rubbish or debris—except for one thing: coins. These coins are the small change leftover from casino guests exchanging their chips after gambling. As these coins, worth a few cents or dollars, are heavy to carry around, guests simply throw them into the water gracefully, following the Chinese tradition of bringing good luck. The whirlpools created by the gondoliers rowing their oars gather these coins together at the bottom of the canal.
