Tour Highlights
An English‑speaking guide will accompany the tour.
Admire the illumination of the World Heritage site Shirakawa‑go, which is held for only four nights.
Approximately 150 minutes of free time to stroll through the brilliantly lit gassho‑zukuri village.
This package includes round‑trip bus transportation from JR Takayama Station, so you do not need to arrange your own transport to Shirakawa‑go.
This is a high‑quality and reliable Japan tour provided by Club Tourism, a major Japanese travel agency with over 70 years of history. Our guides are renowned for their warm and attentive service, highly praised by travellers from around the world. Although the tour is primarily conducted in Japanese, many travellers do not speak Japanese, so even first‑time visitors to Japan can join with peace of mind.

Available for only four special nights a year, the Shirakawa‑go illumination is the most enchanting winter event in Hida. Departing from JR Takayama Station, there is no need to scramble for bus tickets yourself. Follow the English‑speaking guide into the snow‑covered gassho‑zukuri village and experience the breathtaking night scenery where lights and falling snow intertwine, immersing yourself in a snowy country atmosphere completely different from the daytime scenery.

As night gradually falls, we arrive at Shirakawa‑go shortly after 5:00 pm, and the tour experience consists of a stroll through the village. Warm lights illuminate the old gassho‑zukuri houses blanketed in thick snow, thatched roofs piled high with glistening white snow, soft glowing light flowing along the countryside paths, and streams reflecting the twinkling lights — every frame looks like a scene from a fairy tale. Due to on‑site regulations, access to the observation deck is extremely restricted, so it is generally not possible to climb up for a panoramic view. The tour focuses on an up‑close stroll through the village, allowing you to immerse yourself in the serene atmosphere of the illumination.

The illumination event dates are provisional and may be adjusted or even cancelled. Snow scenery is also weather‑dependent and may not be guaranteed. Night‑time temperatures at the venue can drop below freezing, so be sure to prepare thoroughly for the cold. We recommend bringing a windproof and waterproof heavy jacket, and waterproof insulated snow boots with deep treads and strong grip. Prioritise bringing a raincoat or poncho — in strong winds, umbrellas are not only difficult to use but also pose a risk of accidentally injuring others. Some village paths are dimly lit, so a torch/flashlight is essential. Also remember to bring hand warmers, insulated gloves, a beanie and earmuffs to fully cope with the freezing conditions.

This product is a reservation‑based booking service. Confirmation of your booking requires processing time and is allocated on a first‑come, first‑served basis. If spaces are fully booked, you may be placed on a waiting list, or the booking may not be accepted. Official booking confirmation is subject to the issuance of the voucher. If the tour is cancelled due to full capacity or other reasons, we will contact travellers within the specified period. Those who do not wish to remain on the waiting list may choose to cancel the booking and request a refund. The tour is led by an English‑speaking guide throughout. Please provide your real name and email address when booking, and arrive punctually at the meeting point — latecomers will have their tour participation cancelled immediately.

Step into the illuminated gassho‑zukuri settlement on a snowy night, listen to the guide's stories about the architecture of this World Heritage site, and collect a one‑of‑a‑kind memory of a Japanese winter amidst the interplay of lights and snow.
