【FAQ】
1. What special features make Cham Island in Vietnam worth visiting?
Cham Island is a UNESCO‑recognised biosphere reserve that combines captivating natural scenery with rich marine life. Visitors can enjoy pristine beaches such as Bai Chong, lush green mountains, and coral reefs ideal for snorkelling and sea walking. It is an ideal destination for those seeking relaxation and nature exploration away from the hustle and bustle of the mainland, offering a unique ecological experience.
2. If visitors wish to stay overnight on Cham Island, are there accommodation options?
Although Cham Island is mainly known for day tours, there are limited homestays and family guesthouses on the island, mainly concentrated in the fishing village. These accommodation options offer a simple experience closer to local life, rather than luxury resorts. It is advisable to enquire and book early, especially during peak tourist season, as options are limited and fill up quickly.
3. What are the common means of transport from Hoi An or Da Nang to Cham Island?
Most visitors choose to join an organised day tour that includes a speedboat ride from Cua Dai Port near Hoi An or designated pick‑up points in Da Nang. Independent travellers can also take a local ferry from Cua Dai Port, which is a slower but more traditional way to reach the island, though departures may be less frequent.
4. What activities can visitors experience on Cham Island, especially water sports?
Cham Island is famous for its diverse water activities. Visitors can go snorkelling to admire the colourful coral reefs and marine life, experience the unique underwater adventure of "sea walking", and swim in the clear blue waters. In addition, relaxing on the beautiful Bai Chong Beach is a popular leisure activity.
5. What can visitors expect to see when experiencing sea walking or snorkelling on Cham Island?
During the sea walking experience, participants wear a special helmet that allows them to breathe normally underwater and walk on the seabed surrounded by colourful fish and marine plants. Snorkelling, on the other hand, involves floating on the surface and observing the rich coral formations and diverse marine life in the shallow waters through a mask and snorkel, allowing you to appreciate the underwater world from a different angle.
6. Does a Cham Island day tour usually include lunch? What facilities are available at Bai Chong Beach?
Yes, a delicious lunch, usually including fresh local seafood, is part of the Cham Island day tour itinerary. Bai Chong Beach is known for its unique ecological environment and offers facilities for visitors to relax and enjoy their meals. Common facilities include shaded areas, restrooms, and sometimes small shops, ensuring your comfort during your stay.
7. What is the typical duration of a Cham Island day tour? What is the speedboat journey like?
A typical Cham Island day tour usually lasts a full day, generally starting in the morning and returning in the late afternoon, giving you plenty of time for various activities and relaxation. The speedboat journey to the island is an exciting and scenic experience, quickly crossing the sea while offering captivating views of the coastline and open waters, adding to the sense of adventure.
8. Besides water activities, what other attractions or natural landscapes can be explored on Cham Island?
In addition to the popular water activities, visitors can explore the local fishing village to experience daily life, visit historical sites such as the ancient well or Hai Tang Pagoda, and discover viewpoints offering panoramic views of the island and the surrounding sea. The lush green mountains also provide opportunities for leisurely exploration and appreciation of the island's natural scenery.
