Attraction Information

Seokguram Grotto

A UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, this artificial granite grotto is nestled on the mid‑slope of Mt. Tohamsan. Inside sits a colossal stone Buddha facing the East Sea, with walls adorned with exquisite relief carvings of bodhisattvas and disciples. Combining precise construction techniques with Silla Buddhist art, it stands as the pinnacle of Far Eastern grotto art.

Bulguksa Temple

Listed alongside Seokguram as a World Heritage Site, this is a classic of Silla‑era Buddhist architecture. Renowned for national treasure stone relics such as Seokgatap Pagoda, Dabotap Pagoda, and Cheongun‑Baegun Bridge, the overall layout recreates the ideal of a Buddhist Pure Land. Its balanced and elegant stonework preserves a thousand years of Silla architectural aesthetics in full.

Cheomseongdae Observatory

The oldest surviving astronomical observatory in Asia, built during the reign of Queen Seondeok and now a World Heritage Site. Its unique bottle‑shaped tower is stacked layer upon layer with 362 granite stones, with the number of layers concealing calendrical symbolism. Over a thousand years ago, Silla astronomers observed stars and celestial phenomena here — a marvel of ancient science and stone artistry combined.

Daereungwon Tomb Complex

A UNESCO World Heritage site comprising the royal tomb mounds of Silla royalty. Dozens of rounded, grass‑covered ancient burial mounds rest quietly across the green grounds, creating a gentle and serene atmosphere. The central Cheonmachong Tomb can be entered to view its stone‑lined wooden chamber structure, where over 10,000 precious gold and silver burial artefacts — including the famed Heavenly Horse Painting — were unearthed, offering a glimpse into Silla royal funerary culture.

Donggung Palace & Wolji Pond (Anapji Pond)

Ruins of the Unified Silla royal villa and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, this was once a garden where the royal family held banquets and received foreign dignitaries. An artificial lake is paired with three replica pavilions in traditional style, and at night, the lights reflecting on the water create a breathtakingly beautiful scene. The pond‑island landscaping embodies the idea of immortal mountains, fully recreating the splendour of a thousand‑year‑old royal garden.

Hwangnidan‑gil Road

Gyeongju's popular hipster street, right next to the Daereungwon ancient tomb mounds. Traditional hanok houses have been converted into a vibrant mix of stylish cafés, indie gift shops, specialty dining, and street food stalls. With rustic tiled‑roof houses blending with trendy designs, this harmonious fusion of old and new makes it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll, photo‑worthy moments, and soaking in the capital's chic atmosphere.
