The name El Caminito del Rey dates back to 1921, when King Alfonso XIII crossed it during the inauguration of the Conde del Guadalhorce Dam. Over time, due to disuse, it became the most dangerous path in Europe. However, after extensive restoration, it reopened in 2015 and is now safe and easily accessible.
This route stretches from the Guadalhorce‑Guadalteba Reservoir to El Chorro, featuring narrow sections only 1 metre wide. It runs parallel to the railway tracks, showcasing the Gaitanes Gorge and El Gaitanejo.
