A trip to the Third Tunnel of the DMZ (Demilitarised Zone) and the Gamaksan Suspension Bridge in Paju, near Seoul, is a distinctive itinerary that combines historical depth with natural beauty. Entering the Third Tunnel, discovered in 1978, you will descend 73 metres underground into a 1.6‑kilometre‑long passageway, where the blast holes on the rock walls and coal‑stained surfaces vividly showcase the imprints of Cold War history. You can also head to the Peace Observatory to get a distant view of the Kaesong Industrial Complex. Afterwards, proceed to the Gamaksan Geumgang Paeun Bridge, a 220‑metre‑long red suspension bridge suspended amidst the green mountains. The slight sway as you walk across offers a thrilling experience, while the bridge provides panoramic views of Paju's mountain scenery. The striking contrast of the red bridge against the green trees makes it an excellent spot for taking beautiful photos. The entire journey combines historical exploration with nature sightseeing, making it an ideal day trip from Seoul, suitable for history enthusiasts, families, and groups of friends.
