Welcome to the world's first museum! The Empire Roman Museum houses an extensive collection of artworks and artefacts, telling the fascinating history of Rome. In 1734, Pope Clementine XII decided to open a significant collection of artworks and ancient sculptures to the citizens of Rome permanently. This generous act led to the birth of the world's first museum, located on top of one of Rome's seven hills, overlooking the Roman Forum. Here, a wealth of history and culture is gathered. You will see the famous Capitoline Wolf statue, depicting Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, and admire a variety of precious artefacts that tell the story of Rome, the Caput Mundi of the ancient world. Before visiting the museum, don't miss the multimedia video on ancient Rome to deepen your understanding of this glorious history.

Arrive at the breathtaking Piazza del Campidoglio, designed by Michelangelo himself in the 16th century.

The square was built to be precisely positioned between the two peaks of the Capitoline Hill.

You will find the Basilica of Santa Maria in Aracoeli next to the Piazza del Campidoglio.

Inside the Capitoline Museum, Marforio (one of Rome's 'talking statues') will greet you
