Step onto a land that has borne millennia of civilisation and unlock the thousand‑year wisdom of Aboriginal Australians! The Budj Bim Cultural Landscape guided tour takes you into a UNESCO World Heritage‑listed site. Follow the Gunditjmara cultural guides on an immersive exploration of the cultural codes, ancient skills and natural vitality hidden within this wetland, embarking on a unique journey that combines profound culture and natural beauty.

This is the home of the Gunditjmara people, who have thrived here for tens of thousands of years and created one of Australia's earliest and largest aquaculture systems. With wisdom coexisting with nature, they have written a survival legend spanning millennia. The tour is led by professional Gunditjmara cultural guides, who will use vivid storytelling to unveil the creation stories of their people, elaborate on the life cycle of the kooyang (eel), and the ancient philosophy of harmony between humans and nature on this land, making every narration an opportunity to touch history.

Travel along the western edge of Lake Condah (Tae Rak) as a feast of nature and history unfolds. Stroll along the wooden boardwalk to the lake jetty, where the 1,700‑hectare important wetland and the stony highlands beside the lava flow reflect each other, offering a pristine and magnificent vista. Along the way, you will explore numerous stone aquaculture systems and fish traps, which are the wisdom of the Gunditjmara people for luring and harvesting eels for food and trade, silently telling the survival wisdom of this ancient community.

The journey starts from the eel holding pond, detailing the habitat and life cycle of the eels, then visits the lava flow on the east side of the lake, the kooyang traps, and the intricate network of aquaculture systems. Every landscape holds untold stories. The rich marine life and birds in the lake add vitality to this ancient land, offering picturesque scenes of human‑nature coexistence at every turn.

The tour commences promptly at 10:00 or 14:00 and concludes at the Tae Rak Aquaculture Centre & Café. No need to plan anything; just follow the guide's footsteps to understand Aboriginal culture through a leisurely walk, revere the wisdom of nature during the exploration, and immerse yourself in the unique charm of the Budj Bim Cultural Landscape, gaining an unforgettable journey full of historical depth and natural healing.
