Product Details

The Arena of Nîmes is an exceptionally well‑preserved Roman amphitheatre located in Nîmes, France, dating back to around 70 AD. This elliptical structure measures 133 metres in length, 101 metres in width, and 21 metres in height, standing as a magnificent example of Roman architecture. Built from limestone, its outer facade features two tiers of 60 arches, incorporating elements of Doric and Corinthian orders. Originally capable of holding up to 24,000 spectators, its tiered seating reflected the social hierarchy of Roman society. During the medieval period, the arena was transformed into a fortress and later a residential quarter. Today, it serves as a cultural venue for bullfights, concerts, and re‑enactments of Roman games. Its enduring architecture, combined with continuous use, makes it one of the best‑preserved Roman amphitheatres in the world. The Arena of Nîmes is a symbol of the region's Roman heritage, attracting visitors from around the globe, blending historical significance with modern cultural relevance.
