Located in Taibao City, Chiayi County, Taiwan, the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum officially opened to the public on 28 December 2015. This cultural landmark shines like a brilliant pearl in southern Taiwan. Its establishment not only aims to balance cultural resources between the north and south of Taiwan, but also allows more people in the south to appreciate precious Chinese cultural heritage and experience its profound cultural depth without travelling long distances.
Attraction Highlights
Stepping into the Southern Branch, you will be captivated by its architectural style that blends tradition and modernity. The exterior is both majestic and elegant, as if telling the weight of history and the progress of the times. Inside, it is fully functional: the exhibition spaces are spacious and bright, the education activity areas are full of vitality, the academic research zones are serene and profound, and the leisure service areas are warm and cosy. Every corner is meticulously designed, making it hard to leave.
When it comes to exhibitions, the Southern Branch has its own unique "signature dishes." Complementing the Taipei Branch, it focuses on the theme of "Asian Art and Culture." Here, you can see a dazzling array of artefacts, such as exquisite ceramics, profound calligraphy and paintings, warm and smooth jade wares, and ancient and solemn bronze vessels. Each artefact opens a window, allowing you to glimpse the artistic styles and cultural exchange of different regions and historical periods in Asia.

The Southern Branch also places great emphasis on education and public participation, with a dedicated education centre. Its activities are diverse and colourful, including insightful lectures, hands‑on workshops, and joyful family events. Whether you are an adult or a child, you will find a learning method that suits you here, turning artefacts from cold exhibits into living historical witnesses.

Even more exciting is that, besides the National Palace Museum's treasured collections, the venue regularly hosts special exhibitions and exchange shows, bringing fresh experiences and surprises every time. Whether you are a history enthusiast or an art fanatic, you will find your own joy here.

The surroundings of the museum are also a major highlight, with lush trees and flourishing flowers, like a natural oxygen bar. Here, you can enjoy the scenery while savouring culture, spending a peaceful and wonderful time. The Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum has become a comprehensive cultural landmark integrating cultural heritage, art appreciation, education, learning, and leisure tourism, attracting more and more visitors to explore and experience it.
