Known as one of the Nine Fortresses of the World, the Badaling Great Wall combines majestic steepness with lush and verdant scenery, embodying the essence of the Ming Great Wall. "He who has never been to the Great Wall is not a true man." Many Chinese people regard this section as their primary choice for climbing the Great Wall.

The pass of the Badaling Great Wall is trapezoidal in shape, narrower in the east and wider in the west, with two gates: the East Gate and the West Gate. The East Gate bears the inscription "Juyong Outer Town," while the West Gate bears the inscription "Northern Gate Lock and Key." The section extending northward from the pass is the North Great Wall, featuring 12 enemy towers. To the south of the pass lies the South Great Wall, with 7 enemy towers. Compared to the North Great Wall, the South Great Wall sees fewer visitors. If time permits, it is advisable to walk the South Great Wall first, followed by the North Great Wall.
