Must‑See Featured Attractions

Ancient Quarry Site: The core landscape of Lotus Hill, known as 'the No.1 Quarry in Lingnan'. Over 2,000 years ago, ancient people quarried here, leaving behind cliffs, strange caves, and unique rocks. The most famous 'Lotus Rock' stands atop the mountain like a blooming lotus bud. Trekking along the plank path, you can see natural stone formations like 'Lion Rock' and 'Eight Immortals Cliff', with chisel marks on the rock walls bearing witness to a millennium of craftsmanship.

Guanyin Statue Overlooking the Sea: A 40.88‑metre tall gold‑plated Guanyin statue stands atop Lotus Hill, the largest bronze Guanyin statue in Southeast Asia. The statue has a kind face and holds a pure water vase, overlooking the Pearl River Estuary. Surrounding the statue are the Guanyin Pavilion and the Release Pond. Incense offerings are abundant, and many visitors come here to pray. At dawn, you can see the sunlight casting a golden glow on the statue.

Lotus City: A Qing Dynasty military fortress ruin, with walls stretching over 1,000 metres and featuring crenellations and cannon positions. Inside the city, remains of Lin Zexu's inspection tours are preserved. Climbing the city walls offers a view of the Pearl River Estuary, allowing you to imagine the majesty of this coastal defence fortress. Every Spring Festival, intangible cultural heritage Piaose performances are held here, making it a lively event.

Lotus Lake Scenic Area: A prime summer spot for lotus viewing, with thousands of acres of lotus ponds featuring various colours of lotus flowers blooming in succession from June to August. The lakeside is equipped with viewing pavilions and a nine‑bend bridge, allowing close‑up views of the 'boundless expanse of lotus leaves' scenery. During the peak bloom, a Lotus Flower Culture Festival is also held.

Handy Travel Tips for You

What to Wear: Wear comfortable, non‑slip sports shoes, as some mountain paths are steep; in summer, protect yourself from the sun with a sun hat and sunscreen. The scenic area has plenty of shade but strong sunlight.

Prayer Tips: Free incense sticks (3 per person) are available at the Guanyin Pavilion. Please light them in designated areas; donations are voluntary, and do not be misled by non‑staff members into making purchases.

Dining Recommendations: The scenic area has vegetarian restaurants and fast‑food outlets. Try the Lotus Banquet (made with lotus root, lotus seeds, etc.); you can also bring your own snacks, as the lakeside pavilions are perfect for a picnic.

Nearby Attractions: After your visit, head to nearby Seagull Island for a cycling tour along the island ring road, taste seafood at local eateries, and enjoy the rural landscape.

Every unique rock at Lotus Hill holds history, and every lotus flower reflects Zen. Keep this guide handy, come here to climb cliffs, view the sea, pray, and admire the scenery, and embark on a journey interwoven with nature and culture.
