Product Details

Cheung Wo Shan Eco Park is located in Xinxing County, Yunfu City, Guangdong Province — the birthplace and nirvana site of the Sixth Patriarch of Zen Buddhism, one of the three great sages of the East. Surrounded by mountains, with picturesque lakes and hills, lush greenery and perennial drifting clouds and mist, the park sits at the northern edge of the Tianlu Mountain range, reaching a maximum altitude of 860 metres. It is a renowned high‑altitude mountain ecological tea garden scenic area in Guangdong, hailed as one of the "Top Ten Tea Gardens in Lingnan". The eco park covers over 7,000 mu of woodland, including more than 4,000 mu of Cheung Wo tea gardens. With tea as its medium and wellness as its calling, the park produces "Cheung Wo Tea", a traditional famous tea of Guangdong and one of the province's Top Ten Famous Teas. "Clouds in the mountains, tea in the clouds, and Zen in the tea" is the hallmark of this eco park, making it one of the few wellness cultural sanctuaries above 600 metres in altitude in Guangdong Province.

The Cheung Wo tea plantation is situated at the northern edge of the Tianlu Mountain range, at an altitude of over 600 metres. As a highland area enveloped in mist year‑round with high humidity and temperature, it boasts an ideal geographical environment for growing high‑mountain tea. According to the Republic‑era "Xinxing County Gazetteer": the county features deep mountains and dense forests, with soil highly suitable for tea cultivation, the finest being Tianlu Mountain tea and Longshan tea. The Tianlu Mountain tea mentioned here includes Cheung Wo tea produced on Tianlu Mountain. 象窝山生态园4.jpg

The tea culture of Cheung Wo dates back to the Tang Dynasty, originating with the Sixth Patriarch Hui Neng. Since the Tang Dynasty, the Cheung Wo Shan area has maintained a tradition of tea cultivation. Before the 1850s, Cheung Wo tea was grown and produced on a small scale by local farmers and monks, and thus remained largely unknown to the outside world except to locals and seasoned tea connoisseurs. In 1956, a group of patriotic young intellectuals responded to the national call to go to the mountains and countryside, dedicating themselves to clearing virgin land and planting tea in the deep mountains. They introduced Yunnan large‑leaf tea varieties in batches and developed tea seedling cutting propagation techniques, expanding the tea gardens to a maximum area of over 800 mu, under the name "Cheung Wo Tea". After 60 years of refinement, this tea has gradually become a mainstay of Xinxing County's tea culture.
