City introduction

Konya

Konya is the former capital of the Seljuk Empire and a sacred site of Islamic Sufism. Must-visit places include the Mevlana Museum (tomb of the founder of the Whirling Dervishes), Alaaddin Mosque, Çatalhöyük (one of the world’s earliest cities), and the Grand Bazaar of Konya. You can watch the Whirling Dervishes religious ceremony. The cuisine inherits the essence of ancient Anatolia: Konya roasted lamb, Yağ Somunu (buttery bread), lentil soup, honey-nut desserts, and Cacık (Turkish yoghurt drink) — rich, hearty, and full of rustic flavours.
