City introduction

İzmir

İzmir is the largest city on the Aegean coast, known in ancient times as Smyrna, and is often called the 'Pearl of the Aegean'. Must-visit attractions include the ancient city of Ephesus (the best-preserved Roman city, home to the Library of Celsus), the ruins of the Temple of Artemis, the Kemeraltı Bazaar, the Kordon seaside promenade, and the İzmir Clock Tower. The local cuisine blends Aegean and Turkish flavours: fresh grilled octopus, İzmir-style fried fish sandwich, spinach cooked in olive oil, Beyaz Peynir (white cheese), and Kayısı Dolması (stuffed apricot dessert), offering a fresh and healthy taste.
