City introduction

Riyadh

Riyadh is the capital and largest city of Saudi Arabia, meaning 'garden', a modern metropolis rising from the desert. The iconic Kingdom Centre Tower offers a skybridge for panoramic city views; the Masmak Fortress bears witness to the founding history of Saudi Arabia; the historic Diriyah, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was the ancient capital of the first Saudi dynasty. You can also visit the Al Zal Souq to shop for spices, gold, and handicrafts. The local cuisine features Kabsa (Saudi national dish, spiced rice with beef or lamb), Tharid, Mandi, and the dessert Um Ali. For traditional breakfast, be sure to try Ful (fava bean paste) with Tamees bread.
