Thun
Thun is situated on the shores of Lake Thun and serves as the gateway to the Bernese Oberland. Thun Castle was a 12th-century fortress of the Zähringen family, and its museum houses a rich collection. The turquoise waters of Lake Thun reflect the snow-capped mountains; a boat ride can take you to Interlaken. The old town's Town Hall Square, colourful houses and pedestrian streets are full of vitality. Must-try local dishes include Bernese rösti, Lake Thun whitefish, fondue, and apple strudel; lakeside restaurants offer splendid views of the lake and mountains.
