Copenhagen
Copenhagen is the capital and largest city of Denmark, renowned as the "City of Fairy Tales" and the "City of Bicycles". The city's landmark is the Little Mermaid statue, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, quietly standing by the seaside at Langelinie. Nyhavn is the soul of the city, where colourful townhouses along the canal contrast with vintage sailing ships, lined with restaurants and cafes. Visitors can tour Amalienborg Palace to watch the noon changing of the Royal Guard, or experience a fairy-tale amusement atmosphere at Tivoli Gardens. In terms of cuisine, must-try items include the open-faced sandwich (Smørrebrød), with a rye bread base topped with smoked salmon or pickled herring; the street food Danish hot dog, aromatic and flavourful; and the dessert representative, the flaky layered Danish pastry (Wienerbrød).
