Siem Reap Province
Siem Reap province is the cultural soul of Cambodia and the home of the World Heritage Site Angkor Wat. Key attractions include Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world, renowned for its sunrise reflections and epic bas-reliefs; the Bayon Temple’s 'Khmer Smile', with 216 mysterious faces spanning a millennium; and Ta Prohm, where giant trees entwine the stone walls, serving as a filming location for 'Tomb Raider'. In addition, the exquisite Banteay Srei, the wild and adventurous Beng Mealea, and Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake, Tonle Sap (with its floating villages), are not to be missed. The most representative local dishes include Amok (fish steamed in coconut cream and spices, Cambodia’s national dish), Khmer red curry, grilled pork rice, and Cambodian spring rolls. Authentic flavours can be savoured at the Old Market and Pub Street.
