Colon
Colón is the second-largest city in Panama and the capital of Colón Province, located at the Atlantic entrance of the Panama Canal along the Caribbean coast. Must-visit attractions include the Agua Clara Locks and Gatún Locks, where you can witness the engineering marvel of massive ships passing through the canal. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Fort San Lorenzo, overlooking the Caribbean Sea and the mouth of the Chagres River. Shop at the Colón Free Trade Zone (the largest in the Western Hemisphere) or take a boat to Isla Grande and other Caribbean islands for snorkelling and relaxing on white sandy beaches. The cuisine is primarily Caribbean-style, with must-try dishes including coconut rice, fried fish with plantain chips, spicy pickled pork (Sao), cassava fritters (Carimañolas), and One Pot, all paired with local rum.
