San Juan

San Juan is the capital of the San Juan Province in west-central Argentina, nestled at the foot of the Andes. Thanks to its well-developed irrigation system, it is known as the 'Oasis City'. The Dique de Ullum features emerald green waters surrounded by mountains, ideal for boating and fishing; the Dique Cuesta del Viento is a world-class destination for windsurfing and kiting Secretaría de Turismo de San Juan; the Ischigualasto Provincial Park (Valle de la Luna) is famed for its unique 'lunar landscape' and dinosaur fossil remains; within the city, the San Juan Cathedral and the Sarmiento Museum are worth visiting. Food is centred on the flavours of wine and agricultural produce, must-tries include premium Malbec wine, grilled Angus beef, Humita corn tamales, and fried sweet cheese, experiencing the rich tastes nurtured by highland irrigation farming.
