Hoi An is an ancient town in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was once a major trading port in Southeast Asia, blending diverse architectural styles from China, Japan, Vietnam and France. The iconic Japanese Covered Bridge (Chùa Cầu) is a symbol of the ancient town and appears on Vietnamese banknotes. Chinese-style buildings such as the Fujian Assembly Hall and Cantonese Assembly Hall feature intricate carvings and painted beams, while a romantic boat ride on the Hoai River to release floating lanterns is a must-do activity. The local cuisine is renowned for its rich flavours and unique taste, including White Rose (delicate shrimp dumplings), Cao Lau (Hoi An-style rice noodles), grilled pork with sticky rice, and Vietnamese baguette.
