Keelung City is located in northeastern Taiwan. It was formerly known as Jilong and is renowned for its natural harbour formed by a ria coastline. As the northernmost city in Taiwan, Keelung Port, situated in the city centre, serves as the primary shipping hub for northern Taiwan, earning it the titles of "Head of Taiwan" and "Northern Gateway of Taiwan". Due to its rainy climate, it is also known as the Rain Port or Rain City, and along with Kaohsiung, it is one of Taiwan's two major port cities. The mountain and sea scenery of Keelung is quite impressive, especially during the Japanese colonial period when "Xùqiū Mountain's Xùgāng Sunrise View" was listed as one of the Eight Sights of Taiwan. Aside from Xùgāng, the most prestigious local gentleman of the time, Xu Zisang, selected the "Eight Sights of Keelung" as representative attractions. Over the centuries, the Eight Sights of Keelung have undergone changes.
