Seoul Special City (Korean: 서울특별시/서울特別市 Seoul Teukbyeolsi), commonly known as Seoul (Korean: 서울 Seoul), is the capital of the Republic of Korea and its economic, technological, and cultural centre. It is also the most populous city on the Korean Peninsula. With a history spanning over two thousand years, Seoul is home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites—Changdeokgung, Jongmyo Shrine, and the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty—as well as important historical landmarks such as Sungnyemun. As the capital of the Joseon Dynasty for 500 years, the city boasts numerous historical sites. Other historical sites include Mongchontoseong, Pungnaptoseong, Chogapsanseong, the Tomb of the Six Martyred Ministers, Bongeunsa, Bongwonsa, Jogyesa, Independence Gate, and Myeongdong Cathedral. Parks and tourist facilities include Seodaemun Independence Park, Jangchungdan Park, Tapgol Park, Lotte World, Hyochang Park, Namsangol Hanok Village, Yeouido Park, Namsan Park, Olympic Park, Sajik Park, and Yongsan Family Park. Natural attractions include Bukhansan National Park, National Arboretum, Hongneung Arboretum, Suraksan, Inwangsan, Gwanaksan, and Yuldo Migratory Bird Habitat.
