Naruto City is located in the eastern part of Tokushima Prefecture and is world-famous for the Naruto Whirlpools, one of the three great tidal whirlpools in the world. The Naruto Strait forms massive whirlpools due to the ebb and flow of the tides. Visitors can experience the spectacular sight up close on sightseeing boats, with the Uzu-no-Michi promenade and the observation decks on the Ōnaruto Bridge offering excellent vantage points. Temples such as Rinzai-ji and Gokuraku-ji, which are part of the Shikoku Pilgrimage's 88 temples, are scattered throughout the city. Naruto Park is particularly charming during cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons. The Tokushima Prefectural Museum showcases the culture of Awa. The local cuisine is renowned for Narutomaki (fish cake), a classic topping for ramen; conger eel dishes, sea bream tea rice, and Awa-odori chicken are also tender and flavourful. Naruto seaweed is refreshing and helps cut through the richness of other dishes, offering a unique taste.
