Tokushima City is the capital of Tokushima Prefecture and the political and economic hub of eastern Shikoku, renowned for its Awa Odori dance and magnificent landscapes. Every August, the Awa Odori Festival is held grandly, with the whole city singing and dancing in a lively atmosphere. Mount Bizan Park offers a panoramic view of the city, with a charming night scene. The ruins of Tokushima Castle retain the ancient castle scenery, which is especially breathtaking during cherry blossom season. The Awa Odori Hall allows visitors to enjoy traditional dance performances all year round. The estuary wetlands of the Yoshino River are rich in ecological resources. The local cuisine is full of rustic flavours: Awa-odori chicken sashimi and grilled dishes are both delicious; Tokushima ramen features a rich soy sauce and pork bone broth; Zake sushi uses fresh ingredients; dishes seasoned with Tokushima potatoes and sudachi citrus are refreshing and appetising; and Narutomaki is also a local specialty ingredient.
