Ise City is located in the central-southern part of Mie Prefecture, along the coast of Ise Bay. Renowned for Ise Grand Shrine, it is one of the most important Shinto pilgrimage sites in Japan. Ise Grand Shrine consists of the Inner Shrine (Naikū) and the Outer Shrine (Gekū), dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. Every 20 years, the shrine buildings are rebuilt in the Shikinen Sengū ceremony, which is sacred and solemn. The shrine forest is filled with ancient towering trees, creating a serene atmosphere. Ise's old street (Oharai Machi) is lined with traditional shops, where visitors can purchase shrine amulets (omamori) and Japanese sweets (wagashi). Futamiura's Meoto Iwa (Wedded Rocks) offers stunning sunrise views. The cuisine is best represented by Ise udon noodles, known for its rich broth and smooth texture. Ise lobster (spiny lobster), Matsusaka beef, abalone, Ise tea, and Akafuku mochi (sweet red bean mochi) are classic Japanese sweets not to be missed.
